Of Lower East Pubnico passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on Dec 7, 2024 at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was a son of the late Louis Joseph Amirault and Agnita Marie (d’Entremont) Amirault. Floyd is survived by his wife Carolyn (Hines) Amirault, brother Elroy (Cindy Dewolfe) Amirault, West Pubnico. Niece Kaitlyn (Jeremy Lewis) Grimes, Nephews Riley Amirault and Taylor (Brianna Urquhart) Adams. Mother-in-law Carolyn (Larkin) Hines, Charlesville; Brother-in-Law Richard (Corrine) Hines, Beaverdam; sisters-in-law Sandra Smith, Charlesville and Sarah Smith, Lower East Pubnico and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Besides his parents, Floyd was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Jill (Adams) Amirault, Father-in-law Leonard Hines and brother-in-law James Hines.
Floyd spent his life as a commercial fisher, starting at the age of 16, learning the different fisheries from some of what he considered the best which included his own dad. He spent time on the water partaking in many different fisheries working and learning from others or on his own which included Mackerel trap, Lobster, mossing, swordfishing, gill netting herring, crab, halibut, longlining / handlining ground fish. While he loved the work it was the friendships and bonds that were formed that meant the most. He appreciated the help he received from others throughout his career and prided himself in helping the next generation entering the fisheries. He wanted "the next guy" to be and have the same success within the industry as he had. One of his proudest moments was to have his little brother Elroy leave the deck of his vessel the Western Spray to Captain a rig, and then eventually buying / running his own outfit and forming Agnita Marie Fisheries.
He enjoyed time with friends and family camping, playing cards and travelling but his favorite was snowmobiling in Northern New Brunswick. It was often joked about how everyone headed south, and he was headed north.
The family would like to acknowledge those that helped him throughout his illness with cancer, the Oncology Team, Dr. Cooper and the nurses in Palliative Care, and the care team on 4 North at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. We also wish to express our gratitude to the following individuals for their support and friendship; James (Bub) Nickerson, Shannon Muise, Armond Thomas, Chris Labour, Amanda Haley, Sandra Smith and his niece "old lady Katie" as he lovingly called her.
A service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory can be made to Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to West Pubnico Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middle West Pubnico. 902 762-3407
