Hilda d'Eon

1927-2022

Hilda d'Eon

d’Eon, Hilda Anna - August 31, 1927 to September 20, 2022

We are very sad to announce the passing of our dear mother, Hilda Anna d’Eon, age 95, of Middle West Pubnico. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Middle West Pubnico on August 31, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Elvira (d’Entremont) d’Eon.

One of her first "jobs" was to drive her father, a contractor, to work. He had convinced her at the young age of 15 to get her driver’s license which was quite uncommon at that time.  After completing grade 10 at the age of 16, she worked in a fish store. Later on, she moved to Dartmouth to live with her sister, Doris, and worked in a couple of department stores in Halifax. After marrying, she became a homemaker.  She worked very hard raising her 5 surviving children: Herbert d’Eon, Juliette (David) Morton, Carolyn d’Entremont, Gladys (Eddie) d’Entremont and Corinne d’Eon.

Mom also leaves behind 12 grandchildren that she loved dearly: Nicole (Kerry), Daniel (Marcia) , Stephen (Leah), Jean-Paul (Abigael), Scott,  Ben (Alexia),  James (Sharon),  Paul (Brittany),  Jean-Michel (Laura),  Francine (Charles), Justin (Melanie),  Armand (Susann);  20 great-grandchildren; and her only living sibling, Celina (Edouard) LeBlanc,  with whom she was very close and enjoyed her daily visits.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 56 years Paul B. d’Eon (the insurance man), her son-in-law Ryan d’Entremont and daughter-in-law Sandra (LeBlanc) d’Eon; siblings and their spouses: Alice(Peter) Surette, Doris(Edouard) d’Entremont, Wallace(Edna) d’Eon, Marion(Harold) d’Entremont and an infant brother Paul d’Eon.

She loved and was loved by her nieces, nephews, neighbours, and friends from near and far.  Our house was a meeting place where everyone was welcomed and felt at home.

Mom and Dad camped for many years at Smith’s Cove in Digby and made many good friends. They also liked to travel, visit their friends and play cards, especially bridge.

Other things our mom enjoyed and loved to do were:  playing the piano, music, dancing, quilting, fashion, jewelry, braiding mats, crocheting, sewing, making pickles, flowers, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

She was a member of; Les Dames de Ste. Anne, Nouveaux Horizons de la Baronnie, and The Ladies Auxiliary of the West Pubnico Legion.

At the young age of 49, Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer but survived many bouts of this disease for 46 years. Her story of survival gave hope to many!  Her strong faith in God and a firm believer in the power of prayer brought her through these difficult times. Her motto was ... Every day is a special day! Therefore she lived every day to the fullest with a very positive attitude.  She had a long and blessed life.

We would like to thank everyone that made it possible for our mom to stay at home during the past few years; Dr. J. d’Eon, V.O.N., the Palliative Care Team, Argyle Home Support, many friends, neighbours and relatives. A special thank you to her reliable and very nurturing caregivers: Tante Barbara d’Eon, Kathy Nickerson, Lee Anne Bourque and her cousin Cora d’Entremont.

Visitation will take place at the West Pubnico Funeral Home, Middle West Pubnico on Sunday, September 25 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Due to high Covid cases in the area the family would appreciate if you would wear a mask at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, September 26 at 2:00pm at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Middle West Pubnico with Fr.
